To: Hello, My name is Michele Toplitz and I am the Program Director for the National Academy of Medicine (NAM)?s Healthy Longevity Global Competition, which aims to extend the human healthspan by seeking innovative ideas from individuals of any background or field. TWO-page applications will be accepted from January 17, 2022, through February 28, 2022, at 11:59 pm EST. Individuals and teams may learn more and apply here. The Catalyst Award offers $50,000 USD to individuals with bold, new, potentially transformative ideas that have the potential to improve the physical, mental, or social well-being and health of people as they age, in a measurable and equitable way. Prizewinners can use the funding to support their ideas, which can focus on any stage of life, as long as they ultimately promote health as people age. High-risk ideas that could potentially yield high rewards and, in turn, dramatically change the field of healthy longevity are encouraged. Applications may also originate from any field or combination of fields (e.g., biology, chemistry, medicine, engineering, behavioral and social sciences, technology, data science, and policy). In addition to the winners, all Catalyst Award applicants advancing to the final stages of the review process will automatically be considered for subsequent funding in the form of an Accelerator Award, the second phase of the Global Competition, worth from $150,000 to more than $1 million USD. First, we could use one or more volunteers to lead breakout sessions. I've agreed to be one breakout leader and it would be great to have another person deal with a topic related to our mission. I'm planning to deal with ways to support brain health. This conference is aimed mainly at city workers who are nearing normal retirement age and some who have already retired. Maybe 150-200 people would attend (restricted numbers for the Turnbull Center venue). There is typically a keynote speaker (last year our very own Dawn Carr) and breakout sessions organized along themes such as Health/wellness, Finances, Active Living, and Longevity/ISL (yes, we get our very own segment). Second, potential research ideas are to take advantage of this type of gathering to evaluate needs and desires of retiree prospects (and retirees), whether the city has addressed them a) in terms of keynote speaker, breakout topics, that is, evaluation research; and b) ideally, whether attendees and non-attendees (control group) differ on some outcome measures (is the conference effective). I can see this as a potential topic for an ISL Planning Grant (interdisciplinary team), a Retirement Research Foundation application dealing with retirement themes, and thinking big, an NIA longitudinal study (e.g., think of the UK's Whitehall study of British Civil Servants; City of Tallahassee has around 3000 employees). The City is eager to collaborate with FSU on this type of project. Incidentally, the City is setting aside up to 30-40 registration slots for FSU attendees. So, it might be useful to attend it if you are thinking about research study ideas. Callie will have the relevant information about registration once it opens for registration. From: Martin Spata Sent: Friday, February 18, 2022 9:47 AM To: Neil Charness Subject: 2022 (eng)aging! international conference: CALL FOR PROPOSALS Dear Neil, I hope this email finds you well. As you participated in our 2021 conference and were interested in contributing to (eng)aging! project, we would be honored to discuss and potentially implement a joint session with Institute for Successful Longevity during the upcoming "Active Ageing through Innovation: Learning from the COVID-19 Pandemic" conference, which will take place on June 8-9, 2022 in Prague. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected various aspects of individual and societal life and older people have been among those most affected. Overcoming the COVID-19 crisis and post-crisis uncertainties will require more decisive actions on ageing. This year's conference will be dedicated to discussing innovative solutions to overcome these uncertainties as well as to presenting technological products and innovations with a potential to improve living in old age. For more detailed description of the conference theme, please visit www.engagingprague.com. The conference is associated with Technology Fair, where technological products and innovations focused on older persons and their specific needs will be presented. The conference will principally focus on the following thematic areas: * Lessons from the COVID-19 Pandemic; * Ageism and Technology Gap; * Evaluation and Adjustment of International Frameworks for Policy Actions on Ageing. * Besides the above-mentioned topics, we also welcome cooperation proposals concerning other relevant issues on the field of population aging and its impacts. Please kindly let us know whether your organization would be interested in proposing and co-organizing a 2022 (eng)aging! conference session, be it a panel, a lecture, a working breakfast, a workshop, or any other format that may be relevant and that you believe would enrich the conference discussions. Please note that the deadline for submitting a brief concept at the following link: https://forms.gle/KHDbpDrhJDfsvzRv9 is March 31, 2022. We will contact you by the end of April to follow-up on your proposal. For any inquiries, please feel free to contact me. We sincerely hope that you will find our proposal interesting, and we look forward to possibly working together.
