It's that time of year again when the Provost?s Office is requiring an Annual Report from the various centers and institutes throughout the university and the faculty affiliates associated with said institutes. Hopefully, to make the process a bit easier on everyone, I have copied over the necessary and required information that we are being asked to obtain into a separate Word document. The information that is being requested is, unfortunately, going back 3 years, with documentation being requested from 2018-2021 as this is a new report format that the Provost Office has implemented that is taking the place of the annual seven-year evaluation, and as such, requires more information than usual. Those of us here at ISL understand the heavy burden that this is going to cause all of you. However, once the information requested is obtained, going forward, it should be that only the current year information will be requested in future reporting formats. Please note that the required information is due by August 15th, no later than 5:00 pm. Please email back the attached document with the information filled out to Callie Kindelsperger at her email address, cperson at fsu.edu. Freel free to contact us with any questions or concerns. It has been a busy summer, and COVID restrictions continue to dominate plans for a safe return for all to campus. The AFUGN has continued to expand, and we are about to welcome our 80th institution. Expressions of interest are also coming from our colleagues in Asia and Africa, which is terrific news. The International Day of Older Persons is October 1st, and each year has a specific focus (this year's theme has yet to be announced). In Ireland, the event falls at the end of Positive Ageing Week, and we are planning a number of events. The International Day of Older People provides an excellent opportunity to promote age inclusivity and the possibility of AFUGN collaboration. If you are planning an event, please let me know, and we will promote it via the AFUGN social media platforms. SAVE THE DATE Engaging Ageing 21 - The Future of Ageing and the Silver Economy November 1st, 2nd and 3rd. I am delighted that Prof. Roger Baldwin, Professor Emeritus of Higher, Adult and Lifelong Education at Michigan State University and Dr Cathy Fowley, Dublin City University, will jointly act as Academic Directors for this virtual three-day event. To engage as many AFUGN members as possible, I would be most grateful if you could suggest moderators and discussants from your institution on the conference themes outlined below and, of course, disseminate the Call for Abstracts to your broader networks. There will be three parts to the Conference: Day 1: Will focus on Academic Papers and Discourse Day 2: Will focus on the Future of Ageing and the Silver Economy from a global perspective. Day 3: Will focus on the National Perspective. The Keynote Speaker is Nora Super, Director of the Future of Ageing at the Milken Institute. The OECD, World Bank and Hinks Centre of Entrepreneurship Excellence. We are still in the planning stage and will have a confirmed schedule by mid-August. In the meantime, keep well and enjoy what remains of the Summer. If you have any queries, please contact me. From: Mike Rashotte Sent: Monday, July 26, 2021 1:19 PM To: Neil Charness Cc: Walter Moore ; Almena Pettit Subject: An Invitation For ISL To Speak At The Westminster Oaks Speaker Series: The Forum Hi Neil: The Forum speaker series at Westminster Oaks would be honored to have a speaker from the Institute For Successful Longevity on our roster in the month of October. Please consider this message as a request to see if ISL could accommodate our request and could nail down a specific date and topic. At the moment, all Tuesday afternoons (2:00pm) in October are available for The Forum to use the Maguire Center Auditorium. I understand that some other afternoons can be explored to see availability if a Tuesday does not work for ISL. Forum sessions are scheduled for 1h, with the speaker leaving 10-15 min at the end for questions. The auditorium has AV facilities and can accommodate presentations such as Powerpoint on multiple screens. Attendance by Westminster residents seems to run about 50 people. The Forum has offered WO residents a stimulating speaker series since 2012, hosting about 10 monthly programs each year. The stated purpose of the series is "To provide a neutral and balanced venue for thoughtful, informed issues of the day by bringing in speakers from the community". We are now recovering from abbreviated and mostly zoomed programs in the past two years. A sample of these recent programs includes presentations by Michelle Hearn (Civil Rights in the Sunshine State), Dr. Bill Applegate (The Pandemic of 1925 and the Pandemic of 2020), FSU History Professor Maxine Jones (The Rosewood Massacre), Multiple Speakers (The Arts in Tallahassee), and State Representative Allison Tant (Update On the 2021 Legislative Session). There is high interest and enthusiasm among The Forum's board to have the work of ISL included in our series for the first time. After you and I talked a couple of weeks ago, The Forum recognizes that ISL is likely to be involved in the opening program for the new Memory Care Facility at Westminster Oaks. At this time, the date and nature of ISL's involvement in that endeavor remains uncertain, but the opening seems likely to occur in September or October. An ISL presentation at The Forum in October is now envisioned as being separate from whatever ISL will do in that important "opening" program. It is our guess that the exceptionally broad base of initiatives at ISL would provide topics for The Forum that would be of great interest and not overlap ISL's involvement in the "opening's" program. Depending on how the latter program develops, we suggest that ISL select a topic that does not overlap. As you and I discussed, a broad overview of ISL would likely provide our audience with important new information they can access through your web site and could be involved as participants in ongoing projects, or topics on a selection of specific projects would work if the overview is covered in the "opening" program. We would be pleased to have the topic for our series remain fluid until early September. Please let me know if we can make a Tuesday date in October to have ISL participate in The Forum, and can work out a specific topic in the next few weeks as other commitments by ISL at WO are defined. We are not able to offer a stipend for the speaker, but we do have one hell of a Forum coffee mug as a substitute! Best regards,.
