Please disseminate this information as quickly and as broadly as possible to your membership. Best, Jean >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dear Colleagues: Based on feedback from the community, NSF has made a number of improvements to the NSF-approved formats for the biographical sketch and current and pending support sections of proposals. As a reminder, in accordance with the Proposal and Award Policies and Procedures Guide (PAPPG) (NSF 20-1), these formats will be required for proposals submitted or due on or after June 1, 2020. NSF also has updated the websites for the Biographical Sketch and Current and Pending Support to further inform the community about these improvements, including updated Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs). Biographical Sketch Improvements: * Permit use of "et al" for publication citations in the Products section in the event that listing multiple authors makes it difficult to fit the information into the allotted space (NSF fillable format and SciENcv format); * Increased space for the Products section by removing instructional text. Links added to relevant PAPPG sections (NSF fillable format); * Removed the requirement to include the NSF ID (NSF fillable format); and * Added a version date to the document (NSF fillable format). Current and Pending Support Improvements: * Increased the number of Project/Proposal entries from 10 to 15 to support the majority of proposals submitted to NSF (NSF fillable format); * Updated the Award Number field to allow entry of both numbers and letters (NSF fillable format and SciENcv format); * Replaced the "Calendar Year" label with "Year" to be consistent with PAPPG guidance (NSF fillable format and SciENcv format); * Removed the requirement to include the NSF ID (NSF fillable format); and * Added a version date to the document (NSF fillable format). We look forward to you continued suggestions and improvements. Please continue to provide comments to policy at nsf.gov. We would appreciate your sharing this information as rapidly and as broadly as possible. Best, Jean >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dear Colleagues: On June 1, 2020, NSF will implement the Proposal and Award Policies and Procedures Guide (PAPPG) (NSF 20-1) for proposals submitted or due on or after this date. The revised PAPPG implements a variety of changes and clarifications, the highest profile of which requires use of an NSF-approved format for the preparation of the biographical sketch and current and pending support. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing stress on proposers, the research community has not been able to adequately prepare and train their staff for the implementation of the new requirements. NSF has therefore made the decision to delay the requirement to use NSF-approved formats for the biographical sketch and current and pending support sections of NSF proposals until October 1, 2020. Proposers must continue to format these documents in accordance with PAPPG requirements (see PAPPG sections II.C.2.f and II.C.2.h). NSF encourages the community to use these formats and continue to provide valuable feedback as we enhance them for future implementation. Over the coming week, NSF will make updates to existing policy guidance, websites and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to reflect the change. NSF will communicate further with the community once these updates have been made. Webinars covering the use of NSF-approved formats as well as all of the significant changes to the PAPPG are available on the NSF Policy Outreach website. NSF will continue to implement all other changes to the PAPPG beginning June 1, 2020, including the following: ? New requirement for proposing organizations to submit government-wide representations and certifications in the System for Award Management (SAM); ? New requirement for providing e-mail documentation of Program Officer approval for the submission of RAPID and EAGER proposals; and ? Clarifications to current and pending support coverage as well as other changes throughout the document. You are encouraged to review the by-chapter summary of changes provided in the Introduction section of the PAPPG. If you have any questions regarding these changes, please contact the DIAS/Policy Office at policy at nsf.gov. See the below example for what I mean. A participant had emailed ISL asking if we could help track down the name of someone from the university in the medical department who had called her to set up an interview, but did not leave any contact info to get in touch with her again. All we ask is that if you have folks who are calling participants for interviews or appointments related to one of the studies, is that you have the person leave their name and phone number to call them back, or if they are emailing, contact information within the email signature, as well as what FSU Dept. they represent. This particular individual was worried about scams and with no information given, she was reluctant to call them back. The researcher did eventually call her back, but going forward, I think it would save a lot of hassle if everyone could just let their department rep?s know who are involved in our ISL database registry and have a study going to leave a callback # or email address going forward. Just a friendly FYI. I thought you might wish to know the person?s name and contact information so that ISL and the FSU Medical School would be in sync. If you do contact anyone, you might emphasize how important it is to have them offer contact information in writing/email/text so that seniors would be able to confirm the legitimacy of their query. As a senior, I know that I may not think to ask for such information when I receive a telephone call. It is only later, and by then it is too late. Do not think that I am in any way disturbed by their query....but I do try to be wise to the ways of the world when it comes to offering my personal information. There are too many stories of identity theft, with seniors being thought easy targets. If the Medical School could cc you with the inquiries they make from your lists, it might solve many potential problems and concerns, and would assure seniors that the inquiry is not malicious. Here is part of the emails I received: Hi Marilyn, Thank you for getting back to me, thank you for letting me know and I completely understand. I looked at my schedule and, according to it, our appointment was for last Wednesday, May 20 at Noon, not today. Prior to that date, I had decided not to participate in the project. But, since I had only been in contact with you via telephone and had only your first name, I had no way to inform you of my decision. Your email below is the only other contact information I have received and that was sent today. My decision not to participate in no way reflects on your research. But I might suggest that in the future you provide contact information in written form (telephone, snail mail, email, etc.) so that subjects might be able to contact you with schedule changes that are agreeable to both parties. NSF has made updates reflecting this implementation to the following policy guidance, websites and frequently asked questions: * Biographical Sketch section of the PAPPG, Chapter II.C.2.f; * Current and Pending Support section of the PAPPG, Chapter II.C.2.h; * NSF-Approved Formats for the Biographical Sketch and Current and Pending Support; * Frequently Asked Questions related to Current and Pending Support; * Frequently Asked Questions on Using SciENcv; and * Frequently Asked Questions on Using NSF Fillable PDF format. In addition, webinars covering the use of NSF-approved formats as well as all of the significant changes to the PAPPG are available on the NSF Policy Outreach website. For system-related questions, please contact FastLane User Support at 1-800-673-6188 or fastlane at nsf.gov. Policy-related questions regarding the content of the formats should be directed to policy at nsf.gov. Best, Jean >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dear Colleagues: On June 1, 2020, NSF will implement the Grants.gov Application Guide (NSF 20-089). Overall, the Guide has been updated to align with the changes to NSF's Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures Guide (PAPPG) (NSF 20-1). This means that the requirement to use an NSF-approved format for submission of the biographical sketch and current and pending support will go into effect for new applications submitted or due on or after October 5, 2020. All other significant changes and clarifications will be effective for applications submitted or due on or after June 1, 2020.
