You are invited to the next ISL Brown Bag to hear Dr. Thomas G. Broussard Jr., Ph.D., speak on aphasia and his own recovery from speech loss following a stroke.

Broussard was associate dean of Admissions & Career Services at The Heller School at Brandeis University until his stroke in 2011. He could not read, write or speak well but kept a 500-page diary. He "wrote" his diary using graphs, charts, and metaphorical drawings with text that didn't make any sense.

Broussard regained his language and wrote the first three volumes of the Stroke Diary series: "Stroke Diary, A Primer for Aphasia Therapy," "Stroke Diary, The Secret of Aphasia Recovery," and "Stroke Diary, Just So Stories, How Aphasia Got Its Language Back" (Gold 2018 FAPA President's Book Award.)

At the ISL Brown Bag, at noon March 10 in Room A211 in the Psychology Department Building, he will discuss the process of recovery and how our brains learn from experience-dependent neural plasticity.

Broussard and his company, Stroke Educator Inc., are conducting a national "Aphasia Awareness" campaign to educate people about stroke and aphasia, an impairment of language that is often the result of a stroke. The campaign is in its fifth year, with more than 200 presentations at 25 states so far.

For those who cannot attend in person, we will be doing a Zoom meeting, where you can join here: https://fsu.zoom.us/j/639285542;
