From: David Lipten Sent: Tuesday, October 8, 2019 9:42 AM To: Neil Charness Cc: Nancy Smilowitz Subject: RRF new priorities Neil, Good morning. The RRF is accepting applications again, this time, under what they term "new priority areas." Here is the description. As always, please let me know if there are any bites at the apple, etc. Thanks: The Chicago-based Retirement Research Foundation is one of the nation's first private foundations devoted exclusively to aging and retirement issues. Throughout its history, RRF has awarded more than $230 million for projects that benefit older Americans. RRF trustees recently approved a three-year strategic plan that reflects a continued commitment to improving quality of life for older people and a desire to become increasingly proactive. A centerpiece of the plan is the establishment of strategic priority areas, including specific topics in aging that will be given higher priority within RRF's grantmaking program beginning in 2020. Priority areas include: Caregiving - Ensuring that care partners (including family members, friends, or neighbors) are informed, well-trained, and supported, as they care for older people in community settings. Housing - Promoting efforts that make housing more affordable and provide coordinated services that enable older people to remain living in the community safely and with dignity. Economic Security in Later Life - Valuing the dignity of older people through efforts that ensure and protect their economic security and well-being. Social and Intergenerational Connectedness - Reducing isolation and loneliness in later life through efforts that strengthen meaningful social bonds, including those that span generations. Each priority area affords an opportunity for RRF to support innovative and effective projects that enable older people to live well and fully in community settings. While the priority areas reflect RRF's primary funding interests, the foundation will remain open to considering compelling applications on other topics. Proposals for direct service projects will be considered from organizations based in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri, Wisconsin, or Florida. Advocacy, training, and research projects, all with national relevance, are considered from organizations in any state. Organizational capacity-building requests are accepted from nonprofits located in metro Chicago. RRF is inviting brief (1-3 pages) Letter of Inquiry (LOI) as part of its grantmaking process. Information about the optional LOI process can be found on the RRF website. LOIs should be submitted by December 2, 2019. For additional information, see the Retirement Research Foundation website. The National Science Foundation (NSF) is migrating its business applications to a modern and flexible platform from November 8 at 8:00 PM EST through November 12 at 6:00 AM EST. As part of this effort, NSF will also upgrade the alpha-numeric character set used by the FastLane and Research.gov systems to correct textual errors, such as special characters displaying as question marks ("?") in proposals and project reports. This migration has been scheduled over the Veterans Day holiday weekend to minimize the impact of the systems downtime on the research community and NSF staff. During this outage, there will be no access to these websites, proposals cannot be prepared or submitted in FastLane and Research.gov, and project reports and cash requests cannot be submitted in Research.gov. However, previously saved information and uploaded documents in FastLane and Research.gov, including in-progress proposals and project reports, will be accessible after the migration is completed.
