An important message from FSU Office of Human Resources

This message has been approved by Shelley Lopez, Program Director, Communications/Special Projects, for distribution to all Department Representatives.

The Office of Human Resources has implemented changes to the job posting and applicant screening process to streamline recruitment efforts and reduce HR touchpoints.

As previously communicated, we will incorporate the following procedural changes when approving Staff (A&P and USPS) job openings created on or after January 3, 2024.

Job Posting and Staff Applicant Screening Changes:
* Minimum qualifications in job postings for all Staff positions will be based on the level of education, years of experience, licensure, and physical ability, per the job class specifications<https://cfprd.its.fsu.edu/hr/class_specs_public/> for the job code and the Position Description.
* Additional skills or experience, if included, will be listed as preferred qualifications. Refer to Job Posting Checklists<https://hr.fsu.edu/sections/employment-recruitment-services/departments>.
* Accordingly, screening questions for Staff positions will be used in a limited, specific capacity to confirm degree field, years of a specific experience, required licensure, or physical ability necessary for the position per the Job Class Specifications<https://cfprd.its.fsu.edu/hr/class_specs_public/> for the job code and the Position Description.
* The limited use of screening questions will eliminate a step for question approval before posting.
* Streamlined qualifications reduce data entry time for the department and increase posting turnaround time.
* Departments will be able to hire for potential and consider a candidate's transferable skills and abilities who might have otherwise screen-rejected for the position.
* Refer to the updated training guide for Creating a Job Opening<https://hr.fsu.edu/sites/g/files/upcbnu2186/files/PDF/Publications/training/CreatingaJobOpening.pdf>.
Job Openings approved before January 3, 2024, will remain on the previous recruitment process to ensure a fair and equitable search process for the existing pool of applicants.
The Office of Human Resources is available to partner with hiring departments in navigating today's challenging job market. A web page<https://hr.fsu.edu/sections/employment-recruitment-services/departments/navigating-recruitment-todays-market> devoted to providing tools and practical approaches to enhance recruitment efforts at each stage of the hiring process is available. Information on how to advertise a hybrid work opportunity and recommended salary language are a few topics covered to address current trends in the market.
Our goal is to expedite requests, enhance processes, and empower departments. The Office of Human Resources will continue to monitor and adapt to the evolving labor market to recruit the best and brightest workforce to FSU.
