<p class="MsoNormal">Many of you have contacted me to inquire about the status of our library colleagues at Gulf Coast State College and Chipola College, which are the two institutions most seriously affected by Hurricane Michael. I know that we all want to
do whatever we can to help our friends and their libraries as they recover from this disaster.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Lori Driscoll at Gulf Coast State College tells me that, “Buildings have significant damage and no one has been allowed back on campus.” I don’t yet have any information about the status of the GCSC library. GCSC has a temporary website
available at <a href="https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.gulfcoast.edu_&d=DwMFAg&c=HPMtquzZjKY31rtkyGRFnQ&r=ErNLMQvDS5BZrIZeelL-Nylx-JsCfC_BTnGrpOVKn70&m=1sKf3OmyrFS9-Yrk-PhEPVq4YpV82GG8YkHPM3wkcBI&s=CDfZxENz0EfD_u7mfs-Qs685Y9u1Gg-og7OIVRdKVW0&e=">http://www.gulfcoast.edu/</a>, which indicates that all GCSC locations are closed and all instructional activity is suspended. When we learn more about the status of their libraries and especially the needs
that they may have, I will share that information with the MCLS.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">I haven’t been able to get in contact with Jane Stephens at Chipola College, but it is likely that she does not have access to email. Yesterday, I visited Marianna with my wife and some friends to deliver a truck and trailer load of supplies
(water, MREs, care packages, dog and cat food, etc.). I’m sad to say that the damage and destruction to the town is simply beyond words. I did not have an opportunity to see the Chipola campus, but I can only hope that it fared better than downtown Marianna.

<p class="MsoNormal">In my experience, helping is a core skill of librarians – in fact, I’d say it’s almost instinctive – so I know that we all want to find a way to help our friends and colleagues at these institutions. I will do my best to share with you
