Description: The western Newfoundland Basin and its surrounding region constitute a key area for water mass exchange between the subpolar and subtropical gyres of the North Atlantic and hence have been described as a crossroads of the North Atlantic circulation.
Substantial observations have been made to estimate the transports of the southward-flowing Deep western boundary current (DWBC) and the northward-flowing North Atlantic Current (NAC) near 47°N and 43°N, but questions remain regarding how the transport changes
from one place to the other. In this study, we examined the transports structure of this region from high-resolution simulations with different resolutions. The simulations represented the spatial structure of the circulation very well, although there are
also differences in time average transport values.</div>

Description: The Arctic Ocean has been warming much faster than the global average since the 1990s. Observations and modelling studies have shown that ocean heat transport contributes to the increase in Arctic Ocean heat content, yet the underlying mechanisms
and its connection to the North Atlantic are still not fully understood. Here we use a global 1/12 HYCOM ocean-sea-ice coupled historical simulation (1980 - 2023) to estimate the poleward heat transport from the subpolar North Atlantic into the Arctic and
quantify the Arctic Ocean heat budget. Most of the heat is carried northward through the subpolar gyre by the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation, whereas north of the Greenland-Scotland Ridge, heat transported by the isopycnal circulation dominates.
The isopycnal heat transport entering through the Atlantic-side Arctic gateways accounts for most of the oceanic heat input into the Arctic and is a major contributor to the latter's variability. Although this transport is positively correlated with the North
Atlantic Oscillation (NAO), the relationship weakens after 2005, especially at Fram Strait. During 2005 - 2018, heat transport increases substantially despite the absence of a persistently positive NAO. Unlike the period before 2005, this enhanced heat transported
into the Arctic is no longer compensated by surface heat loss, resulting in a faster accumulation of Arctic Ocean heat content over the past two decades.</div>
