DESCRIPTION;LANGUAGE=en-US:COAPS Short Seminar Series\n11:00 May 4th\nAtten
 d F2F (in 255 Research A) or Virtually (via Zoom)\nhttps://fsu.zoom.us/j/9
 2268262553\n\nMeeting ID: 922 6826 2553\nTalks are typically 12 minutes lo
ng with an additional 8 minutes for questions. This month our first talk w
ill have the time for two typical talks.\n\nBreaking Down the Effects of C
urrent Feedback Coupling onto the Atmospheric Boundary Layer\nBy Kamran Ch
owdhury\nDescription: We use a paired current feedback (CFB) - no current
feedback (NoCFB) modeling experiment to first capture thermal feedback of
the ocean onto the atmosphere by itself (which is in both simulations)\, a
nd then see what additional responses adding in current feedback does. The
modeling experiment has a unique feature where the ocean is saved from th
e CFB run to the NoCFB run\, allowing more effective comparison of a CFB a
nd NoCFB atmosphere.\n\nA Model-Based Study of Power Input to Hurricane Bo
undary-Layers\nBy Matt Weiberg\nDescription: Tropical cyclones act as mass
ive atmospheric engines\, drawing their power from the transfer of heat an
d moisture at the ocean surface. Despite advances in tracking where storms
go\, predicting rapid intensification remains a major challenge for forec
asters. To better understand this explosive growth\, we will use high-reso
lution computer simulations to examine exactly where and when energy enter
s the storm's inflow boundary layer. By measuring the power intake across
different storm quadrants\, we will identify which regions act as the prim
ary fuel source and map how that internal structure evolves as the hurrica
ne strengthens.\n\nEnsemble versus time averaging: perspectives on mesosca
le geostrophic eddy kinetic energy in the North Atlantic\nBy Luolin Sun\nD
escription: Eddies are classically defined through Reynolds averaging—ei
ther via time averaging\, as transient eddies\, or ensemble averaging\, as
intrinsic ensemble eddies. Yet\, a direct comparison between the transien
t and ensemble eddies have not been fully explored. We focus on the surfac
e eddy kinetic energy defined via the two approaches\, and examine their d
ifferences across spatial and temporal scales.\n\nNOTE: Please feel free t
o forward/share this invitation with other groups/disciplines that might b
e interested in this talk/topic. All are welcome to attend.\n\n\n
