Please review the request as it is a rather large one. This group missed the deadline for annual funding in January and will be requesting for all of their annual events now. Also, in the bill packet you should see a portion about changing the COGS Statutes. This will be a bill that Senator Randall will present to the Senate on Wednesday, but he wanted our approval first. This would also be an excellent opportunity to make any other statutes changes in the COGS section so give that some thought. Lastly, make sure you are financially certified. This needs to be done in order for you to vote on financial matters. Don?t confuse this with the Financial Manual Review Quiz as I did. Other than that, looking forward to seeing you all on Monday and have an excellent weekend. The money we are requesting from each category (expenses, food, clothing) will be used throughout the Fall 2021 semester for events the MPHSA eboard has planned throughout the summer 2021 semester. The events we are requesting money for include: -3 Monthly Meetings/Seminars @ Devoe Moore Center from 6:15pm-8:00pm -----Dates (9/16, 10/21, 11/04) -5 Journal Clubs (bi-weekly) @MPH Student Lounge in Bellamy Building from 7:30pm-8:45pm -----Dates (9/13, 9/27, 10/11, 10/25, 11/08) -Volunteer Events -----Local in Tallahassee area and on-campus @FSU (varies by place/date) More information TBD closer to Fall/during Fall -MPHSA Fall Hooding Ceremony for MPH Graduates -----Date (12/09/21). 1) Monthly Meetings/Seminars: Open to all FSU students. Updates and events discussed about the MPHSA to promote involvement during the meeting portion. Mentorship program updates discussed and recognition for students who are doing good things within our FSU community. After the meeting is adjourned, a guest speaker will present themselves for an hour about a public-health related topic and their career. 2) Journal Clubs: Open to all FSU students. The Research & Development Chair will choose a few Public-health topics throughout the semester that students will do research on or find a journal article about and present their findings when journal club meets up. This promotes research, peer networking, and provides a safe/informal space for students to practice presenting their research. 3) Volunteer events: Currently searching for volunteer opportunities for students to become involved with in the Tallahassee area and FSU campus for Fall relative to Public Health. We have a running document that lists who we've reached out to and have set dates for certain events. Ex: The Alzheimer's Project is hosting a "Forget Me Not Walk" in November that students can sign up for to assist at. They also have weekly needs for volunteers helping with the Alzheimer clients in their respite rooms. We would like MPHSA t-shirts to be worn at all events on and off campus. We will have about 50 incoming MPH students and I am going to push volunteering hard at the beginning of the year and remain consistent by providing them with sufficient time about the event dates 4) MPHSA Hooding Ceremony: The Fall Hooding Ceremony is an honorable event where MPH students graduating that semester will be hooded by the MPH Director, Dr. Burdette. At this ceremony, it will also be a social event with guest speaker, Dr. Shamarial Roberson (Deputy Secretary for Health of State of Florida) giving a speech to all that attend. The ceremony is open to all FSU students at the FSU Alumni Center Grand Ballroom and will be presented by Andrew's Catering (required food caterer). The venue typically costs $2,000, but we have secured the space for free. FSU faculty members and students will be present with approximately 16 graduates as of now. We expect about 100 people present at this event. * How will you advertise the event? Each Monthly Meeting/Seminar, Journal Club, Fall Hooding Ceremony, Volunteer Events, and Fundraising Opportunities will be advertised via: -Monthly Meetings (announce all updates/advertise all other events) -MPHSA Instagram (@fsumphsa) -Virtual Flyers/Invitations -MPHSA Nole Central Account -Tabling opportunities at FSU on-campus events -Emails to MPHSA students -MPHSA Website if feasible (being developed by SGA, Ben Young) *Everything is open to all FSU students * Is the event free and open to all Florida State University Students? Yes * Is there a charge to attend for non-FSU students? No * How much and how do you plan to collect those funds? The MPHSA is trying to collect a majority of our funding through the COGS process. However, we are trying our best to receive outside funding using an off-campus bankout through share-nights with local Tallahassee restaurants, donations from restaurants such as Starbucks (going to donate coffee to meetings), and other donations. So far, we have been in contact with a number of restaurants to secure opportunities for funding this semester. We have secured the MPH department to fund our Fall Welcome Social. By 7/1, we have received over $400 worth of funding and I hope that our others efforts will help us raise a few more hundred dollars. All events we host are free to FSU students. * Funding Request Breakdown by Budget Categories Expense (such as office supplies, rentals, promotional items that cannot be worn) 95.00 Food (such as prepared/catered food, grocery store purchases) 3285.00 Contractual Service (such as speaker Honorarium, DJ) 0 Clothing & Awards (such as t-shirts, plaques, trophies) 610.00 *Please use the box below to upload as much detailed information as possible including multiple quotes from vendors to verify your request. If you work in a building, that you would like to have an AED installed, please send me your suggestion as soon as you can. I cannot make any promises, as we will be trying to make these decisions as objectively as possible out of concern for the welfare of our students; however, as representatives, I am giving you all the opportunity to ?advertise? your location as one in need and to be considered. Factors we will be considering are: Building square footage, foot traffic, degree of physical activity in the area, proximity to existing AEDs, age of those using the area, or even limited access by emergency services do to location or hours of operation.
