The faculty and students in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies (ELPS) were so accepting, supportive, and helpful throughout the decision process, and were always willing to answer my questions about the program, about living in Tallahassee, and any other concerns I had. The culture of the ELPS department just seemed very positive and open, which I loved. Immediately after being guaranteed a graduate assistantship and a tuition waiver, I accepted their offer and have not regretted it since. In terms of research, I am interested in the intersection of gender and sexuality in U.S. schools, and more specifically, how LGBTQ+ women/students construct their queer identities by privileging and/or contesting certain gender and sexuality norms. After graduation, I hope to enter academia to continue my research and teach subjects related to gender, sexuality studies, and education. Have news to share? We'd love to hear from you! I have been receiving a lot of inquiries about the scholarship process and when notifications will go out, so I wanted to give you all an update. With the new system, scholarship notifications are sent in the form of an automatically generated system email to students upon scholarship approval. Unfortunately, the process for approving these scholarships is completed by one individual at the Foundation. This means that it may take some time for this individual to go through all 200+ scholarships that we have submitted. Some students have already began to receive their scholarship notification, however, there are still many more that will go out. We do not have an exact time of when these will be completed, so please be patient with the process. If you were not selected to receive a scholarship, you will be notified by the College once all approved offers have gone out. As always, please reach out if you have any questions or concerns with the process. Happy summer!
