From coe-grad at lists.fsu.edu Mon Mar 4 08:31:09 2024 From: coe-grad at lists.fsu.edu (College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences Graduate Student Mailing List) Date: Mon, 4 Mar 2024 13:31:09 +0000 Subject: [CEHHS-grad] Introducing Grammarly (premium account for students) 3/4-3/6 In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: From: Dina Vyortkina Subject: Introducing Grammarly (premium account for students) 3/4-3/6 Dear CEHHS Students, Writing is an essential skill for any academic endeavor, whether it is conducting research, grading papers, or communicating with colleagues and students. However, writing can also be challenging, time-consuming, and stressful, especially when juggling multiple deadlines, formats, and expectations. Many of us have been using Grammarly, but more likely, a free basic account. We are happy to announce that we have partnered with Grammarly to offer you a free premium account for one year (with many useful features). Many thanks go to Dr. Qinchun Rao, who took the time to write up and submit a CEHHS-wide tech fees proposal. The CEHHS tech fees committee allocated funding for 1000 premium accounts. Faculty and staff will get 100 licenses, and students will get 900 licenses (all on a first-come, first-served basis). So, your tech fees are at work! The premium account will be available to selected users till February 2025. To assess further needs for Grammarly (or similar products), we will ask you to complete a brief survey at the end of 2024. We count on your participation! We hope that you will take advantage of this opportunity! Grammarly put together some support resources for us (see here). Please take time to review them (especially those related to AI and prompts) and attend the webinars Grammarly regularly offers for higher education. Clicking on the link provided below will get Grammarly installed for you. Please do not click it if you currently have a Grammarly premium account. CEHHS student sign-up will be available only from March 4 to March 6, 2024. Click this link to install a Grammarly premium account. If you need any assistance signing into Grammarly or installing the software, please submit a help request to the IT Team here. Happy writing! TO: Deans, Department Chairs/Program Heads, Graduate Coordinators to also send to all Graduate Students FROM: Mark Riley, Dean of the Graduate School and Emily Leventhal, Director of the Graduate Student Resource Center DATE: March 26th, 2024 PLEASE ALSO PASS THIS INFO ALONG TO ALL GRADUATE STUDENTS. MEGA-THANK! The Office of the Provost, in partnership with The Graduate School, has launched a website for FSU?s new Graduate Student Resource Center (GSRC), which is a virtual hub for graduate student resources and information. This is one of several education initiatives resulting from FSU?s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), which is a required major component of this spring?s Reaffirmation of Accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) process, see https://sacs.fsu.edu/qep for more details. Under the leadership of Dr. Emily Leventhal, the GSRC website will be expanded over time to become a comprehensive and centralized list of academic and student support services available to all graduate students. This website is an ideal place to refer graduate students who need additional assistance with academic skills or support in addressing challenges that negatively impact degree progress. Website Link: Graduate Student Resource Center The GSRC website currently highlights three opportunities offered by campus partners who are collaborating on doctoral student initiatives outlined in the QEP: University Libraries is offering graduate skills workshops that include sessions on citation management; literature review; and data management, analysis, and visualization. Doctoral students who attend at least one of these workshops will be eligible to apply for a new travel grant program designed to augment funding currently available from academic departments and the Congress of Graduate Students. The Career Center is offering doctoral students a set of activities to improve readiness for employment in academic and non-academic positions, including virtual mock job interviews and consultations with a new Career Liaison staff member. Additionally, master?s and doctoral students immediately have access to virtual job planning and placement skills modules (for academic and non-academic careers) through two digital e-learning platforms. The Center for the Advancement of Teaching (CAT) is offering a new complement of workshops, reading groups, and other activities designed to help Teaching Assistants (TAs) build knowledge of evidence-informed approaches to instruction and ongoing development to benefit current FSU undergraduate students and TA employment outcomes. Dr. Leventhal is available to consult with department and program faculty on a wide range of collaborative topics, including potential GSRC initiatives, campus resource referrals, and opportunities to speak with students about GSRC engagement during department orientation or other events. She may be reached via email (EL24K at fsu.edu), telephone (850-645-9751), or in Room 4001C, Honors, Scholars and Fellows Building. Sincerely yours and GO NOLES! Mark Riley Professor/Dean, The Graduate School and Emily Leventhal Director, Graduate Student Resource Center If you have any questions or concerns about this email or the GSRC, please do not hesitate to contact The Graduate School at gradschool at fsu.edu.
