Jeong-Su Kim passed away on December 29 following a period of illness. He was surrounded by his family and friends, and is survived by his wife and daughters. I know I share the sentiments of our faculty, staff and students when I say we are all honored to have known Dr. J. Kim, who enriched the lives of many during his 16 years with the college. He will be missed immensely. Dr. J. Kim joined what was then the College of Health and Human Sciences as an assistant professor in 2006 and was an invaluable and highly respected leader, collaborator, researcher, instructor, mentor and friend. More importantly, his kindness, enthusiasm and passion for his work, our college, and programs undoubtedly encouraged and inspired countless students. Through his roles as graduate program director for the Department of Health, Nutrition, and Food Sciences, associate director of the Center for Advancing Exercise and Nutrition Research on Aging, and as a faculty affiliate of the Institute for Successful Longevity, the Pepper Institute, and the Institute of Sports Science & Medicine, Dr. J. Kim?s impact and contributions spanned the wider FSU community and beyond. The college is forever grateful for Dr. J. Kim?s warm spirit, generosity, and genuine kindheartedness. Gifts in honor of Dr. Kim may be made through the FSU Foundation and will fund the creation of a Dr. Jeong-Su Kim Graduate Scholarship and Research Fund in the department of Health, Nutrition, and Food Sciences. Donations can also be made directly to the family via Zelle (850-339-0597) or Venmo (@youngim420). His family is planning a memorial service on January 6, 2024, at 11 AM at Tallahassee Korean Baptist Church, located at 4225 Crawfordville Road, Tallahassee, FL, 32305. The service will also be streamed on YouTube here. The service will be conducted in Korean; simultaenous translation from Korean to English will be provided via Zoom here (Meeting ID: 822 0067 6961; passcode: 1229). If you plan on attending the service in person, the church asks tthat you tune into the Zoom meeting and listen to the live translation on Zoom using headphones. I ask that you keep Dr. J. Kim?s family in your thoughts as we continue to reflect on the contributions he made, both personal and professional, to all of us. I know the loss of Dr. J. Kim will profoundly impact many here at the college. Please remember that the university offers support services, including grief counseling, to all faculty, staff and students. I encourage you to take advantage of these services and have included contact information below.
