June 26, 2023, 9-11 AM Hybrid: Stone Building, Room G103 & Zoom 9-10 AM: Talk on Data Validation | 10-11 AM: Q&A Consultation Abstract Researchers presenting their studies must commonly justify the methodological choices they make for readers to accept the validity of the conclusions that they draw. There is, however, an important part of the research method that is commonly overlooked, both in reporting and in practice: Validating the data being analyzed. This presentation will discuss the importance of data validation to the research enterprise and review the use and perceptions of data validation among education researchers. To provide a scaffold for implementing validation in research, we will discuss what aspects of data should be validated, suggest specific aspects of data sets that should be checked, and make recommendations for how to address identified issues. We will review strategies for tracking and managing data validation, and discuss how data validation should be reported in articles and grant applications. After reviewing the benefits of data validation, we end by considering how to encourage these practices among education researchers. RSVP Here Please contact Sonia Cabell at scabell at fcrr.org with any questions. ? ? [https://files.constantcontact.com/a4906c54201/0b8a0beb-da35-4966-a011-5812f71cbd4e.jpg?rdr=true] ?
