FSU?s PhD program in International and Multicultural Education fit my interests well. I knew about a few of the professors in the program from their publications and scholarship. As their work aligned with my own areas of interest, FSU seemed an ideal place to pursue my research. As a bonus, I was offered a position as graduate research assistant at FSU?s Learning Systems Institute. This afforded me the opportunity to work with and learn from highly skilled and experienced professionals on cutting edge projects in international education development. The rigors of the PhD program in International and Multicultural Education have helped me work through the issues and doubts I encountered previously as a practitioner. The readings and coursework enhance my research skills and deepen my knowledge and understanding about education systems. Other students in my classes bring their own experience and perspectives to the table, challenging my assumptions, enriching the discussions, and enabling me to think better about my research. Engaging with a community of like-minded people motivates me to pursue my research with vigor. My research focuses on teacher professional development for improved early grade reading in India and other low- and middle-income countries. I recognize the importance of foundational learning among children across the world and the global inequity in learning outcomes that perpetuates inequality. I would like to contribute to the knowledge base in this area working with teachers who form the backbone of education systems. After graduation, I want to maintain a balance between academia and practice, using research to produce tangible results in improving educational outcomes. Ultimately, I aim to drive systemic change in educational systems focused on building stronger foundations for children across low- and middle-income contexts. Message-ID: Hello, College of Education Students. I hope that you are all doing well. If you are applying for, or if you are completing, an undergraduate or graduate certificate program offered in the College of Education (COE), please carefully read the email below. You may disregard this email, if you are: 1. Not applying for admission to a College of Education Certificate Program in the list below or 2. Not submitting a certificate completion form (in spring 2022) as a student who is already admitted to one of the COE programs listed below** Please note: BS/MS Pathway students, if you are not currently admitted in one of the programs listed below please do not submit a certificate completion form. Certificate Programs are not the same as (teacher certification track) MS degrees earned in the School of Teacher Education BS/MS Pathways. The certificate programs in the list below do not lead to initial teacher certification in that subject area in the State of Florida. Certificate Program Admissions: Submitting a certificate admission application? Please see the specific certificate program information and website links listed below. For questions, please directly email the program-specific contact. Submit the online COE Certificate Admission Applications early! April 29, 2022 is the last day of the spring 2022 semester. It also serves as the deadline for completed and department-approved COE online Certificate Admission Forms to be received in the Registrar?s Office for spring 2022. ** **In accordance with Florida State University policy, admission to College of Education certificate programs requires submission of the online COE Certificate Admissions Form to the appropriate department Certificate Program Coordinator and to the Registrar?s Office prior to the completion of two courses in the certificate program (grades posting for those courses). The University Registrar?s Office approval of the online certificate program application, prior to completion of two certificate program courses, is required. Important: Students are not admitted by the University into a certificate program by virtue of enrollment in certificate-related courses. An approved application is required. Certificate Program Completions: Submitting a certificate completion form? If you have been previously admitted by the University to a College of Education certificate program** and you have completed all certificate program requirements, please see the respective certificate website links listed below for the applicable completion forms link and certificate contact information. April 29, 2022 is also the date that admitted certificate program students who are completing certificate in spring 2022 can begin to submit the online Certificate Completion Form(s) to the appropriate academic department/program for review. This is to ensure that all Education certificate admission applications and certificate completion forms are received by the University Registrar?s Office in a timely manner and in compliance with Florida State University requirements for certificate programs. After all certificate coursework is completed, but no later than 2 weeks after grades post, the appropriate online COE Certificate Completion Form must be filled out and submitted to the department Certificate Program Coordinator. Approved online completion forms will be forwarded to the Registrar?s Office for processing and posting to the official transcript. Certificate completion forms submitted by students who were not previously approved for admission to the certificate program will be denied. As previously mentioned in this email, approval of a certificate completion form requires previous approval for admission to the certificate.** College of Education Certificate Programs Athletic Coaching (Graduate only): Certificate Website Certificate Admission Application Certificate Completion Form Program Contact Email: tbaghurst at fsu.edu Autism Spectrum Disorder Certificate (Graduate only): Certificate Website Certificate Admission Application Certificate Completion Form Program Contact Email: kwhalon at fsu.edu College Teaching (Graduate only): Certificate Website Certificate Admission Form Certificate Completion Form Program Contact Email: aroehrig at fsu.edu Educational Leadership/Administration (Graduate only): Certificate Website Certificate Admission Application Certificate Completion Form Program Contact Email: dhamkelly at fsu.edu or clsmall at fsu.edu Human Performance Technology (HPT) (Graduate only): Certificate Website Certificate Admission Application Certificate Completion Form Program Contact Email: ajeong at fsu.edu Institutional Research (Graduate only): Certificate Website Certificate Admission Application Certificate Completion Form Program Contact Email: cmokher at fsu.edu Instructional Design and Technology (Graduate only): Certificate Website Certificate Admission Application Certificate Completion Form Program Contact Email: ajeong at fsu.edu Leadership Studies (Undergraduate only): Certificate Website Certificate Admission Application Certificate Completion Form Program Contact Email: kguthrie at fsu.edu Measurement and Statistics (Graduate only): Certificate Website Certificate Admission Application Certificate Completion Form Program Contact Email: ipaek at fsu.edu Online Instructional Development (Graduate): Certificate Admission Application (see Instructional Design and Technology) Certificate Completion Form Program Contact Email: ajeong at fsu.edu Online Teaching and Learning (Graduate only): Certificate Website Certificate Admission Application Certificate Completion Form Program Contact Email: ajeong at fsu.edu Program Evaluation (Graduate only): Certificate Website Certificate Admission Application Certificate Completion Form Program Contact Email: piatarola at fsu.edu Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) (Undergraduate and Graduate): Certificate Website Undergraduate Certificate Admission Application Undergraduate Certificate Completion Form Graduate Certificate Admission Application Graduate Certificate Completion Form Program Contact Email: mpapi at fsu.edu IMPORTANT NOTES: * The certificate programs listed above are not BS/MS Teacher Education Pathways and they do not lead to initial teacher certification in that subject. * Undergraduate students cannot be admitted to a graduate certificate program. * Paper certificate admission and completion forms are not accepted. * **Retroactive certificate program admission applications cannot be approved.
