(WCTV) - Leon County Schools is calling on parents and other family members to help the district fill a need for substitute teachers. This comes as schools across the state of Florida are experiencing a shortage of teachers and staff. The Florida Education Association reported a 67% increase in teaching vacancies from last year. ? The biggest reason many teachers leave the profession is lack of pay. That?s one thing FSU?s College of Education has been advocating for: increasing state funding for teacher salaries. COE Student Spotlight [https://files.constantcontact.com/a4906c54201/afbe508f-8636-4861-857a-33c3dc711242.jpg] Name: Sonya Kaminski Hometown: Etowah, TN Major: Counseling Psychology and School Psychology (Ph.D.) I chose FSU because I was interested in a combined counseling psychology and school psychology doctoral program and knew that FSU had an outstanding one. When I interviewed for the program, I was so impressed with not only features of the program, but how warm and welcoming all of the faculty and staff were. I immediately felt right at home. My favorite part of my program has been the faculty as well as the training opportunities that I?ve had. I?ve had really kind and knowledgeable faculty for all of my courses. I?ve also been able to be placed at some really rewarding practicum sites to do clinical work and have had amazing supervisors and learning experiences. My dissertation examines the buffering effect of social support on academic outcomes in youth exposed to trauma. After graduation, I would like to start up a program that offers animal-assisted group therapy interventions for traumatized adolescents. I would also like to teach and conduct research at a university at some point. Have news to share? ?We'd love to hear from you! Spring 2022 registration for continuing and readmitted graduate students opens on October 11, 2021. Please check your my.fsu.edu account and clear any applicable registration holds as soon as possible. All students are required to acknowledge a Student Financial Responsibility Agreement before enrolling in classes every term. This means that a registration hold is placed on every student?s record by Student Business Services before registration opens. The Student Financial Responsibility Agreement will appear as a ?To Do List? item on the student?s MyFSU portal. Once the student acknowledges the agreement, the registration hold will be lifted instantly. The Agreement ensures that students consider the financial implications of their enrollment and ensures that the University maintains compliance with several federal rules and regulations surrounding fair debt collection practices, communication methods, financial aid, and withdrawal. For more information about the Agreement, visit the Student Business Services website at: http://controller.vpfa.fsu.edu/student-business/student-resources. If you have any questions about this policy, please contact Student Business Services (SBS) directly. SBS is the only office that can lift this registration hold. Important: OASIS cannot remove the Student Financial Responsibility hold or other University-level holds (Admissions, Health Insurance, Financial Hold, etc.) from your account. If you have a hold on your account placed by the College of Education (program of study, exam requirement, etc.), please contact your academic advisor/major professor or department/program staff for assistance in resolving the requirement. If you have any questions about registration, please contact your department/program staff directly. Thank you, Lisa Lisa M. In order to stay informed and aware, you are required to set up and maintain your student account and check it three times per week. If you choose to have your official FSU student email account forwarded to another e-mail account, you are still held responsible for all information distributed by the University to your FSU account. [A picture containing room Description automatically generated] If you are receiving this email, you have been identified by the university as officially pursuing a graduate major within the College of Education at The Florida State University.
