Friday, Sept. 6:

  *   Last day to pay or defer tuition, housing, or fees for all students, including veterans who are not using a veteran deferment, without a $100.00 late fee. Veterans should contact a VA representative with questions.

From now until September 16, students can apply to the COE Travel Scholarships and the International Travel Scholarships.

The COE Travel Scholarships ($500) were established to provide undergraduate and graduate students with opportunities to travel as a way to enhance their educational experience. This experience should be one which is of significant interest to the applicant and applicable to their career in education so they can bring their passion to the scholarship experience.

The International Travel Scholarships ($5,000) were established to provide graduate students with new cultural experiences to enhance their degree program in the College of Education. These scholarships are being offered to help College of Education graduate students have a unique experience with cultural immersion as a means of enhancing their future careers.

Travel Scholarship Eligibility
1. Must be formally admitted to the College of Education as an undergraduate or graduate student and in good academic standing.
2. Travel must be completed within one calendar year of award.
Additional International Travel Scholarship Eligibility
3. Must attend one (1) semester in the College of Education after travel program and present a Brown Bag Lecture of your experience.
4. Must be a College of Education faculty approved, monitored program, or directed independent study (DIS).
5. Two letters of recommendation from FSU faculty members must be submitted upon application.

Camera phones and social media have fueled a renaissance in portraiture. We are all now photographers and artists, with our friends, family, and pets serving as our inspiration. Whose creative genius is on display when you take a picture of your friend doing something great? This breakdown in authorship is particularly acute when artists depict other artists. This interactive exhibition places the visitor in the role of artist and influencer, drawing inspiration from both traditional and new portrait mediums.

Beyond Borders Info Session

Develop a deeper understanding of another culture through this unique, short-term cultural exchange. Welcome incoming international students from Jamaica or Germany on FSU's campus. Then travel abroad and experience cultural immersion with the same international students in their home country (1 week in Jamaica over Spring Break or 3 weeks in Germany following the spring semester).

Deb Osborn, associate professor of Psychological and Counseling Services, provided a two day workshop  (August 26-27) on Cognitive Information Processing theory for the Career Guidance and Counseling specialization summer studies. The studies were designed for career development professionals and took place at the University of Jyväskylä in Finland. The topic was "Bridging theory, research and practice in career counseling: Tools and processes for the Cognitive Information Processing Approach."
