<i>“Like everything alive that we try to hold forever.”</i> Through photography, sculpture, and video, the artworks in “<i>Like everything alive that we try to hold forever”
</i>start to navigate the many issues that come with being human. Originally presented in 2023 at Esker Foundation in Calgary, Canada, and produced as a traveling exhibition by ICI, the exhibition’s first stop is FSU’s MoFA. “Like everything alive that we try
to hold forever” will be on view until June 27th, 2026.</span></p>

<span style="font-size: 12pt; color: black;">Elizabeth Diggon is a Curator at the Esker Foundation. She holds a PhD in Cultural Studies and an MA in Art History from Queen’s University, Kingston. Diggon’s writing has been published in the Journal of Curatorial
Studies, the Journal of Canadian Studies, and in exhibition texts for galleries across Canada. </span></p>

<span style="font-size: 12pt; color: black;">Naomi Potter is a Director/Curator at the Esker Foundation. Potter holds a BFA from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, and an MFA in sculpture from Concordia University, Montreal. In 2003, Potter was
awarded a year-long Deutsche Akademische Austauschdienst (DAAD) artist residency, and then went on to co-direct the international artist residency program at CESTA in the Czech Republic. </span></p>

<p style="text-align: left; text-indent: 0px; margin: 0cm;"><span style="font-family: Aptos; font-size: 12pt; color: black;">Shauna Thompson is a Curator at the Esker Foundation. Thompson holds a master’s degree in Curatorial Studies from the University of
Toronto and a master’s degree in English from the University of Guelph. Thompson is a current and founding member of Calgary’s Public Art Alliance, a coalition that advocates for the value of public art in Calgary. </span></p>

question why these topics are so discomforting to so many. Glaser’s work has a saccharine, campy exterior- full of sugary colors and glittering embellishments- which she amalgamates with medical horror. Glaser will be leading “Do it Yourself: Screen Printing.” </span></p>

relationship to the Philippines as a Filipino American. Cut, torn, and burned paintings of Florida’s subtropical climate, combined with sculptures of Filipino foods, illustrate the fluidity and puzzle-like nature of shaping identity. Flores will be leading
“Reimagined Viewfinders.” </span></p>

labor of immigrant women. Kamiya depicts their ancestors as leaping koi fish, collaging their portraits into the scales of the fish. Through selective inclusion, Kamiya questions whose memory endures and why. Kamiya will be leading “Mini Wire Maquettes.”</span></p>

absurd situations and expectations when navigating America as a Black person. Parker’s photography, video art, and performances appropriate tools and media that have historically perpetuated anti-Blackness and redirects them to challenge these narratives.
Parker will be leading “Photography and Animal Masks.” </span></p>

the intricate balance between human connection to landscapes and the ecological impact of human activity. Hewitt highlights specifically the Western tradition of anchoring our identities in aspects of landscapes while simultaneously exploiting and destroying
them. Hewitt will be leading “Colors of the Landscape.” </span></p>

the parlor of her home using the “Ghana Must Go” bag combined with figurative painting, sewing, and bedazzling to create a home that is suspended between departure, waiting, and the longing to remain. Odimba will be leading “The Social Life of Things.” </span></p>
