<div>I wanted to reach out and share an excellent opportunity for anyone who is interested in teaching and is hoping to teach for us in the next academic school year (2021-2022). If you are planning to take the class, Teaching College Art, next semester, I
strongly encourage you to register for this December training session. The training is entirely remote and registration for it is now open. Information about how to register is in the email copied below. </div>

<div>PIE stands for Program for Instructional Excellence and you <u><i>MUST</i></u> be PIE certified before you can teach at FSU. Taking this training now will accomplish several positive things: </div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>First, it jumpstarts the learning that we must do to be prepared. Teaching is a nuanced and complicated thing and there are many moving parts. PIE will help shape your understanding of many of the aspects of teaching and better prepare you for the discussions,
observations, and work we will do in class next semester. </div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Next, because this training is a university requirement, you will not be allowed to teach until you have successfully completed the training. By taking the training in December, you will have another opportunity to take it before teaching should you need
it. IF instead, you decide to wait until August to do this training and you are scheduled to teach a class for us you run the risk of being pulled from the class
<i><u>IF</u></i> you do not pass your PIE training. That last minute schedule change is difficult on every one and not worth the added stress for you either. Best to sign up for this session:</div>

TA Standards</a> along with best practices in grading, communicating with students, encouraging active learning techniques, diversity and inclusion in the classroom, and technology usage. By the end of this training, participants will be able to explain and
have procedures in place to address University policy issues related to the Academic Honor Policy, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Discrimination-Sexual Harassment-Retaliation. Participants
will also be equipped with strategies to help navigate use of Canvas features essential to their role as a TA, communicate effectively with students, and provide productive, inclusive and equitable student feedback.<o:p></o:p></p>
