The University’s mandatory First Day Non-Attendance Drop policy is in effect for the first week of Spring 2026 classes. The use of different delivery methods for Spring 2026 classes does not remove this requirement.
<b>Dropping students for first day non-attendance is necessary in order for the university to remain in compliance with Federal Financial Aid regulations (and students expect it).</b> This policy requires all faculty and instructional staff to take attendance
at the first class meeting of the semester. This policy is non-discretionary and applies to all classes, regardless of campus, space availability in the class, delivery method, course level, and/or academic unit offering the class.</div>

As a reminder, <b>‘attendance’ means making contact with the instructor as specified by the instructor at the start of the term</b>. There are a number of ways this contact can be achieved. One way instructors can take first day attendance is via their Canvas
